My oldest and boldest
Such fond memories of this one. This now grown up 12 year old is the same one that used to greet me in the morning and ask: “How sleepy good?” (Mix of how did you sleep and did you sleep good) The same sweet cheeked, stuffed bear toting, basket full of pudgy rolls now sports converse, skinny jeans and tote’s his skateboard (the same skateboard that I backed the car over a few months earlier due to failure to follow proper “gather up your crap and put it away” procedures). Oh how time fly’s! Here are a couple of my favorite memories about this special kiddo
- The time he was 2 and scared of the dark and didn’t want to sleep in his own room. I opened a pack of glow in the dark star stickers of assorted sizes and stuck a few on the wall next to his bed and said “There, now you’re not in the dark anymore”. He reluctantly allowed me to go back to bed and when I woke up to go to the bathroom a few hours later, I heard giggles coming from his room. I opened the door and there he was, sitting in the middle of his bed lit up like a Christmas tree! Apparently I had left the pack of glow in the dark stickers within his reach when I left the room so he decided to decorate himself. They were everywhere! I kept finding them in random places around the house for the next two weeks including but not limited to the bottom of my shoe.
- The time we went to watch fireworks and when they started, he said with the most genuine, concerned little voice: “Uh oh! watch out moon!”
Just a couple that come to mind.
He used to giggle about bubbles and Barney. Now he giggles at you tube video’s of lighting farts on fire. His homework used to be color by number. Now, a doctorate’s degree is required as a parent to comprehend or assist with his homework. He used to use phrases like: ”mommy can I marry you when I grow up?” Now most of his sentences contain the words, yeah right, dude or showers are over rated. His feet used to smell like flowers with a dash of heaven. Now the aroma is more a mixture of curdled milk and fresh dog poo. His favorite things used to be Elmo, cupcakes and stuffed animals. Now his favorite things are video games and……………well, video games. On the flip side, he still tells me I look beautiful. He still gives me bear hugs, and doesn’t ask me to drop him off at the corner so his friends don’t associate him with his super uncool mom…………… Give it a few years. He is the sweetest, smartest, most loving, 12 year old I have ever met in my life and our lives would be boring without his hysterical sense of humor!

Aww sweet boy!!!
I was going through some old photos this morning to scrapbook – how quickly they change and grow!
Mine is 17 and a senior, trying to be fiercely independent and mature. But that cuddly little boy is still in there, and I LOVE IT. He just left the house to meet some friends for lunch and gave me a kiss on his way out. And that stinky thing? They start caring about showers and smelling good when they hit high school. Unfortunately, it’s not for you, but for grrrrls, but you get to reap the benefits nonetheless.
I attest, he is the most sweetest and adorable 12 year old that I know!
I agree 100%!
It’s a strange mix, isn’t it? Missing the old times but embracing the changes that come with the new. It’s one of the bittwersweet parts of being a mom- kind of like how cute they look when they sleep, except when they are sleeping on top of your pillow;) Congrats Mommy!

Oh this was such a sweet and loving post. My little one tells me now “She had a good nap” even if she slept at bed time. so I know someday I will be doing this too to all the cute phrases they both said to me at this time of their little lives. Thanks for sharing and truly enjoyed this post!!
What a sweet post! They do grow so quickly. I had a momentary panic attack the other day thinking that in 4 short years my oldest will be ready to move out. I feel like we just brought her home from the hospital!
It’s in that wonderful in between stage where we’re still cool, but yet he’s growing up into his own being. I dread my kids reaching that age. My oldest is getting there quickly too. Time flies by for sure.
Thanks for sharing some of your memories and how he’s changed.
My daughter is 16 now; how I long for the those innocent days of cuddles in feetie pajamas and tea parties, of craft projects that left the house covered in a thick dusting of glitter and of those peanut butter and jelly kisses and hugs.
